The most widely used sand binder for stainless steel sand casting is clay. In the operation, various dry oils or semi-dry oils, phosphates and various synthetic resins can be used as the sand binder, which is used in stainless steel sand castings. The type of the sand used for sand molding and the method for building the strength of the sand are classified into three categories: clay wet sand, clay dry sand and chemical hardening sand.

Clay wet sand of stainless steel sand casting is mainly made of clay and proper amount of water as the main binder of sand during the process of production. After being made into sand type, it will be directly shaped and poured in the wet state. Wet casting has a long history and wide application. The strength of wet sand is determined by the clay slurry in which clay and water are mixed in a certain proportion. Once the sand has been mixed, it has a certain strength. After being compacted into a sand mold, it can meet the requirements of forming and casting. Therefore, the amount of clay and moisture in sand are very important process factors.

In the operation of stainless steel sand casting, the core sand and sand molding material are mainly used to make the casting mold.
